Rising Gas prices. AMNP: 1.38 +0.02 (1.47%)

Yahoo reports oil jumped above $79 and asian markets rose during US earnings season. As people regain confidence in the US economy, the USD weakens -- investors tend to reallocate increasing capital to investments in emerging countries.

Sierra Gold corp is up 40% since I've first mentioned it on my blog and is up 150% since I have stumbled upon it.

Now waiting on apple's earnings report....

Update on the Gold rush: AMNP 1.17 +0.14 (13.59%)

Jobless claims have dropped to the lowest levels this year comparable to those in January. The market continues to rise after consumer spending and corporate profits increased. Retailers saw their first gains since one year ago showing consumer confidence, a valuable signal that the economy is on the rise. 49% of the basic goods sector gained more than 2% with 44% of the sector gaining 0-2%, a continuing effect of the falling dollar.

AMNP is up 62% from the past three days as I write this and has gained the attention of a private equity research group in Canada which specializes in small to midcap corporations.

Get in quick, but beware the precious metals bubble.

Sierra Gold Corp (OTC:AMNP), an American gold mining company focused on discovery and production of gold mines, has increased 32% total in the past two days after oil-producing countries such as Russia, China, and France announced they would stop using the dollar to price crude oil. The dollar weakened due to decrease in demand and value of gold and oil rose as investors look to precious metals as a more stable substance. The EUR/USD ratio increased for the period as the USD weakened. We'll look to see if the trend is sustainable. Let's hope inflation doesn't kill us.

News: Sierra Gold Corp has signed a letter of intent to acquire 75% of Discovery Day Gold Project for $2 million paid over two years. The project covers 950 acres. To raise the funds Sierra is offering an additional 2 million shares. Analysts predict a huge upside for the acquisition.
In addition, Gold Corp (mrkt cap: 34.42 bil) just paid $8 billion for mines next to Sierra's high-yield potential mines. With money like that, it's possible Sierra is just waiting to be bought out which would send valuation through the roof.

China Telecom Corporation Limited is an integrated information service provider in the People’s Republic of China. -Google Finance.

Short term: Price will fall. Volume decrease is a sign that current upward price movement is decreasing in strength. However, it can shoot past the ceiling posting a possibility for big gains.

Long term: Price will rise. The channels slope upward.

Note: CHA has agreed, along with several other telecom businesses, to cooperate with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China in its 3g mobile banking business. CHA helped create the 2mil CDMA phone growth per month for the past 3 months by using promotions, tie-ins and subsidy policies. By the end of the year, expected 3g users will be a little less than 1/3 of all mobile users in China and the number is expected to grow to 40% by 2010. CHA is only one of three companies in China to hold a 3g license.

AK Steel Holding Corporation (AK Holding) is a producer of flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, and tubular products through its wholly owned subsidiary, AK Steel Corporation (AK Steel). - Google Finance

Short term projection: A little unclear, but signs are optimistic. Though losing $47 mil in 2Q due to decreased demand from automakers, AKS beat analyst expectations. On the good side, they announced they expect 3Q operating profits to break even, while analysts expect operating profits to be -$18mil.

Long term projection: Upward trend. 2 months and a half until next quarter's earnings. Hopefully AKS business strategy will prove profitable.

The Company sells mobile products in two product lines: smartphones and handheld computers. Its product lines provide a range of business productivity tools, and personal and entertainment applications designed for mobile professionals and business customers, as well as entry-level consumers. -Google Finance

Short term projection: Poised for a nice recovery after it's 10 day 3.64% fall in price. Line 3 seems like the lower trend line to follow due to its breadth.

Long term projection: Uptrend. However, consider setting a stop loss at $13.5 in case it tanks. This is a viable option considering at the end of July, Palm's short interest was 30% of its outstanding stocks. However 15 of 18 analysts maintain a hold or buy value.

Notes: Sprint's 2Q losses widen while subscriber losses narrow. Sprint Nextel Corp. fell 49 cents, or 10.7 percent, to $4.10 after its loss widened in the second quarter as revenue and subscribers continued to fall. Most subscribers to the Palm Pre are current customers. Sprint is failing to attract new customers. Only offsetting the losses were the 930,000 new users of Boost Mobile, Sprint's prepaid service. However, Sprint is now offering the Palm Pre at different locations such as best buy's, a good marketing move.

Short term Projection for the future( 1 mo) : Price will fall. Bounce off the upper trend line. Expect $9.50 plus. Note the most recent OHLC. It is red meaning closing price is below opening price. Perhaps sellers are winning the battle.

Long Term Projection(2 mo+): Price increase until mid september when the trend will become unclear as price start to squeeze into the funnel. Can break either way. Need to wait for more news. We'll see if buyers can demand the price up.

Notes: Rated a buy at Jefferies on July 15th, 14 days ago. Price has risen 18% since then.

Short term Projection: Looking for a (1) bounce off the upper trend line resulting in a price drop. The (2) decrease in volume matches the predicted move. Not enough support to continue the short term upward trend. Can see $12.50 at the end of August. It appears there are no market news to cause the stock to break the upper trend line. Use a covered call (hold long, write call option) for one month at a price above current price of 13.73

Long Term Projection: Upward trend. More green candle sticks than red meaning closing prices are higher than opening prices. This is a result of more demand from buyers causing the price to rise overall.
